The "Woodland x Interface" collection concept draws inspiration from the intricate linework and vibrant colors of endangered trees worldwide, notably the Pennantia Baylisiana, Bois Dentelle, and the Dragon Tree. This collection, featuring Reflect, Revive, and Restore colorways, aims to embody the rejuvenating essence of nature while reflecting sustainable design principles. Additionally, the concept takes cues from Konrad Wójcik's "Single Pole House" project, integrating biomimicry and sustainable energy solutions to harmoniously blend architecture with the surrounding wooded landscapes. This carpet is designed to evoke a sense of environmental consciousness and beauty, creating carpets that not only adorn spaces but also advocate for the preservation of our natural world.

Deforestation to Restoration
Deforestation and a warming climate create a damaging cycle for our Earth. The future of our planet depends on how we treat our forests and preserve our natural resources.
Initiatives worldwide are targeting specific locations like the Amazon rainforest to stop cattle-ranching and logging by using advanced monitoring systems. Other organizations are pushing for more sustainable materials for their products. Small steps are being taken, which could have a huge impact.
Sustainability Components
The premise of the "Woodland" carpet design revolves around sustainability and the urge to protect Earth's natural landscape. Specifically for deforestation, I was looking for alternatives to leather because cattle ranching is one of the top causes of deforestation. I found that cacti can be turned into a leather which is much more environmentally friendly since it is a rapidly renewable resource. Before the leather is processed, individual fibers are extracted and separated from the cactus plant, which I used in the backing of my carpet square.
In addition to cactus, another rapidly renewable material that I am using in the actual carpet is bamboo. Like cacti, bamboo is rapidly renewable and relatively cheap. Its fibers will be woven in with the nylon to create a commercial carpet that is sustainable yet very durable.
