Scope
For this project, we were tasked to design a senior living facility for our future selves. With this building being 50 years in the future, we had to think about  technology integration as well as environmental factors that the world may be facing. Another large component of this project was creating spaces that have universal designs, which go beyond typical ADA standards.
Concept
At Tailored Living, a senior living facility, we believe in fostering a vibrant community where every resident feels empowered, independent, and capable. As residents step into our space, they’re immediately greeted with a sense of belonging and purpose. Whether enjoying a cup of coffee in our cozy shop, tending to plants in the serene rooftop garden, or exploring the maker space bustling with activity, residents are encouraged to embrace their individuality and engage with others.

As they move through the rest of our facility, older adults should feel a profound sense of pride, knowing they are part of a community that values their well-being and supports their continued journey of fulfillment. Residents can additionally offset their cost of living by working within our facilities, fostering a sense of contribution and reducing any potential financial burdens. At Tailored Living, residents don't just reside; they thrive.

The materials of this space strongly focus on the wellness aspects of biophilia and biomimicry. In addition to the natural, earthy materials, pops of color are painted throughout the spaces to instill a sense of unique individuality in each resident.

Maker Space and Shop (Fourth Floor)
Designed by Emily Ridinger

This is the active learning area of the maker space. It is designed to give residents a chance to learn a specific skill in a community setting. In order to connect the spaces vertically, biophilia is incorporated within the ceiling acoustics to tie into the rooftop garden.

This is the shop where the residents are able to display and sell their work that they design in the maker space or grow in the rooftop garden. Simple signage as well as directional ceiling acoustic panels guide the user through the space.
